JCGL Memorials and Obituaries

The Rogue Valley Genealogical Society has begun a program to honor our Rogue Valley ancestors through perpetual memorial and JCGL obituary pages on our website. We envisage a memorial page as including vital statistics such as parents names, birthplace and date, siblings, marriage date and place, spouse's name, children's names, death date and place, and burial place. In addition we want to include a brief comment or anecdote that gives some insight into the honoree's character along with two or three pictures including a headstone photo if possible. Follow this link, Memorial Memories, to see examples of pages already created. Just click on a name at the bottom of the page. As you can imagine, a memorial page might be created at any time after the honoree's passing--even after many years have elapsed.

Our concept of a JCGL obituary page is more along the lines of a traditional newspaper obituary, which usually includes vital statistics along with funeral arrangements, survivors, and a single photo. An obituary is usually created at the time of an individual's death, although it to could be created at any time.

Our recommended donation for creating a perpetual memorial and/or obituary page is $100. If you wish both, we will do this for a single $100 donation. Simply indicate this on the memorial information form and/or the obituary information form you fill out. If you choose to do both, you must send us both an memorial information form and an obituary information form. This is because the information and number of pictures is somewhat different for the two types of pages.

The first step is to make a secure online donation of $100 using the Donate Now button below.

Next follow this link, Memorial Memories Form link or this link JCGL Obituary Form, to display a form you can fill in online. When you have completed the form, save it to your computer's hard drive (we recommend saving to the desktop to make it easy to find). To do this, click File and Save As. Choose Desktop from the locations on the left. Next open your email program and address a message to Memorials@RVGSLibrary.org. Attach the file you saved to this email message. Also attach the scanned images of any pictures you wish to include to that email before sending it.

If you have any difficulty carrying out this procedure, phone our library (541-512-2340) during operating hours (Mon-Sat 10AM-3PM) and we will talk you through the procedure. As a last resort, you can print the form and mail it to us (P.O. Box 1468, Phoenix OR 97535) along with copies of the photos or just bring the information and pictures to us at the library and one of our volunteers will go through the process for you.

Remember that we are willing to do both a Memorial Memories page and a JCGL Obituary page for a single $100 donation, but you must send us both a Memorial Memories Form and a JCGL Obituary form.

When completed, Memorial Memories pages can be viewed by following the Memorials link on our navigation bar at the top of each website page. JCGL obituaries can be viewed by clicking on the Obituaries link on the navigation bar, then scrolling down to JCGL Obituaries and clicking on the name of interest.
