Various Catholic missionaries passed through southern Oregon in the latterr half of the 19th century. They registered Baptisms, Marriages, and Interments. These records include the date of the event, the names of the principals, including parent’s names in the case of baptisms and the name of the church official. These records are contained in a volume entitled, "Catholic Church Records of the Pacific Northwest" compiled by Harriet Duncan Minnick . The parish of St. Joseph comprised Jackson and Josephine County and all that part of Oregon lying South of the Umpqua Mountains and extending from the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. These records are included in the Jacksonville Register (1854-1885). The Roseburg register covers the area just to the north and is for the years 1866-1911.
