Jackson County Cemetery/Death Records

Picture of a pioneer headstone

For many years, our RVGS volunteers have been collecting information on the deaths and/or burials that have occurred in Jackson County, Oregon. The information was gathered from mortician records, donation land claims, diaries, death certificates, headstones and obituaries. The information was put on cards for a cemetery/death card file. The card file has been retired, but the online file currently contains more than 86,000 names. Our volunteers are continuing to take headstone photos and more names and photos are being added to the online database as they are completed.

The Cemetery/death File Data Entry Project and the Cemetery Photography Project are funded in part by the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The online database includes last name, first name, middle names (which may include maiden name), suffix, year of birth (if available), year of death (if available), cemetery (if known), source of the information (if known) and photograph of headstone (if available). Symbols used to identify sources in the cemetery database are: "O" for obituary; "W" for a cemetery walk-through; "D" for death certificate; "S" for sexton's records. There may be more than one source listed for each individual.

We can provide a larger image for many of the headstones for $5. Send an email message with your request to librarian@rvgslibrary.org. If a larger image is available, the librarian will reply to your message with the procedure for making a payment. The larger image will be attached to an email message to you.
