This listing is designed to fulfill two goals: to provide the locations of places within the present-day boundaries of Jackson County and to provide the history of the place names.
Locations of rivers and creeks are given at the confluence with the river or creek to which they are tributary, when known. Locations of roads are given at their intersection with a more major road, when possible. An excellent visual source for locations is provided by the various editions of The Highway and Street Guide for Jackson County, Oregon, compiled and published by Jackson County Roads, Parks, and Planning, Jackson County, Oregon. The database below uses abbreviations for its sources. Follow this link, Sources for information about the sources cited in the database. This information is in the form of a PDF file which can be downloaded or printed if you would find it more convenient. The listing itself is a work in progress. Suggestions and contributions are welcome. Follow this link, Submission Form for a form you can complete and save. To email the saved form, attach it to an email message addressed to us at Info@RVGSLibrary.org, along with any message you wish to include. Then send it off like any other email message. We will be grateful for any place name information you can provide. |
