For the early part of its history, the Medford First United Methodist Church was known as the Medford Methodist - Episcopal Church South. JCGL volunteers traveled to the Medford First United Methodist Church to photograph
records from these early days of the church. Records from six church books were photographed covering the years 1861-1907, 1890-1916, 1900-1937, 1900-1912, 1902-1937, and 1908-1923. Although
all digital records are available for perusal in our library, we indexed only the records of baptisms, marriages, and funerals conducted at the church. For the most part, the unindexed records are simply names of those members in good standing at the church.
Although some of the baptismal records include the names of both parents and the names of siblings born into the same family and baptized at the church, other records include only the date of the baptism and the name of the officiating minister. Similarly for marriages, some ministers provided information about the married couple such as place of residence, age at marriage, place of marriage, and names of witnesses, others provided only the date and place of the marriage and the name of the officiating minister. Finally for deaths and funerals, some ministers provided the cause of death and where the body was interred, but others provided only the date of death. If you find a name of interest, you can order a digital copy of the relevant record from us. |
