JCGL volunteers have recently photographed the actual records contained in two Will Books currently housed in the Jackson County Courthouse. We have prepared indexes for each of these two volumes. These indexes include all names mentioned in the record aside from witnesses. Thus they include testators, heirs, legatees, executors, debtors, etc. The word "testator" appears in the fourth column to identify a name as the actual testator, but otherwise the names are unclassified. The only exception is when the testator and his son have the same name. In that case, "son" appears after the name. The indexes include columns for the year when the will was made as well as the year it was executed should these two differ. The final column includes the pages in the will book where the name appears.
Witnesses were omitted from the indexes because they are often functionaries who would be of little genealogical interest. Sometimes, however, witnesses are relatives or neighbors who would be of genealogical interest. We have prepared separate indexes for the witnesses mentioned in each of these two volumes. If you find a name of interest to you and would like a copy of the record, follow the instructions at the top of the index to send either a postal or email request.
